I tried something like that but it didn't work.į***, there is way too much places and stuffs to configure gamepads in Steam, it's awful. I have 2 of them working properly elsewhere, so it's not my gamepads. AXIS 0 and AXIS 1 here instead, but like you, just in 2 directions. Can't do anything, like if it was pressed all the time. While in the Steam Controller configuration, when I press DOWN on the controller it moves the menu highlight UP!! urrrrgh!! wth!? It can only remap two of the D-PAD buttons: LEFT & UP, or only RIGHT & DOWN, etc., and some of the other buttons don't wanna work. However Steam is having issues remapping the buttons under: 'Controller>General Controller Settings>Define Layout'. It successfully detects UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT and all the other buttons. This generic usb controller I have appears to work just fine when testing it under the Windows 10 joy.cpl settings.
